We all knew Thrusters were coming, but most did not predict the repeat of 14.5. We had all hoped we were in the clear after already having Burpees, but clearly were not. A majority of our Open participants this year did not participate in 2014, and were not fully sure how 16.5 would go. Those who have completed it before know all too well that it’s argued as the worst Open WOD to date, and now everyone is well aware. Thrusters are never easy, taxing truly the full body and throwing your heart rate through the ceiling, and pairing that with the Burpee doubles the misery. With the high and slowly decreasing reps, 16.5 needed to be steady from the start. If you went too quick to start (and even many of you that didn’t) you were left contemplating if and how you would ever finish. Judges also doubled as support systems for their athletes, needing to encourage and help them through the finish line. Thankfully there were no tragedies, and while everyone was exhausted, there was a great sense of accomplishment after finishing, and completing the Open.
We will have an Open summary coming next week, and there are only 2 more ways to earn points for your Intramural Team before the competition is over:
1. Vehicle Decal – Any team member that has the CrossFit Reform decal on their road legal car or motorcycle will get a bonus point for their team. You can earn multiple points for multiple vehicles. Decals are up at the front desk and must be put on before the Bowling event. Coaches can help with decals if needed.
2. Bowling Event – The Bowling event is on Saturday 4/9 at 12:30pm at Saddleback Lanes in Mission Viejo. If you haven’t RSVP’d and paid cash to one of the coaches, please do so ASAP. Each team will select 3 of their best bowlers and their scores will be added together for one game. The team with the highest total will earn their team 5 bonus points. There will be no spirit or attendance points. The bowling event is mainly a fun social outing with the best community ever! Enjoy it!
